- 2022 FTA honors and awards among the most prestigious accolades in the flexographic industry
- Footprint innovation in print-to-fiber technology eliminates need for plastic-label wrappers
Gilbert, Ariz. – March 14, 2022 – Footprint, a global materials science technology company focused on creating a healthy planet, won two awards from the Flexographic Technical Association (FTA) celebrated at their annual awards banquet last night.
Footprint won the Sustainability Excellence Award and the Excellence in Flexographic Printing Award for its shelf-stable cup and print-to-fiber technology, a flexographic print process on molded fiber cups. The breakthrough technology allows Footprint to eliminate the need for brands to label their containers with a separate plastic wrapper, which typically then renders the entire package landfill waste. Several Footprint customers are using its shelf-stable cups with print-to-fiber labeling technology already for products like mac n cheese and oatmeal.
“Footprint continuously innovates and looks for ways we can help our customers reach sustainability goals and respond to their customers’ demands to find alternatives to single-use plastic,” said Footprint CEO and co-founder Troy Swope. “Getting rid of the need for a separate plastic label on products and finding a way to make high-quality, color-rich printing work on fiber without sacrificing brand look and feel is no small feat. I’m proud of the team for this breakthrough and for their awards tonight from the FTA.”

The Sustainable Excellence award recognizes companies that demonstrate a commitment to and pursuit of sustainable package printing. The Excellence in Flexographic Printing award recognizes companies that have made exceptional quality and precise consistency their mission in the pursuit of printing excellence. The FTA receives hundreds of competitive award entries each year, which are individually evaluated by qualified flexographic industry members.
Award recipients were announced and recognized for their achievements and contributions to the industry at the FTA’s Awards Banquet at its annual FORUM 2022.
